International Women’s Day is celebrated by CMA each year bringing to the fore the various roles being played by women in the Cement Industry in India, in keeping with this intent, CMA launched its initiative Women of Cement in 2022. CMA applauds and would like to highlight the women in the Cement fraternity. Women of Cement celebrates the resilience, strength and commitment of women in the Cement Industry and we call them, the Women of Cement.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, as announced by the United Nations, is For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.

Meet the Women of Cement

Dr. V.L. Indira Dutt serves as the Chairperson & Managing Director of The KCP Limited, a distinguished 80-year-old conglomerate with a group turnover of USD 3 billion. With diversified business interests in Cement, Heavy Engineering, Sugar, Power, and Hospitality, the Group is known for its excellence and innovation. Under her dynamic leadership, the company has continued on a path of sustainable and resilient growth, even during periods of economic uncertainty. Drawing inspiration from, Dr.V.Lakshman Dutt (former Executive Chairman), a visionary industrialist, Dr. Indira Dutt began her journey with the company as Director in 1986, later becoming Joint Managing Director in 1999, and ultimately assuming the role of Chairperson & Managing Director at a critical juncture during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also played a pivotal role in leading the Group’s international and joint venture initiatives, including FIVES CAIL- KCP Limited and KCP Vietnam Industries, ensuring strategic alignment and operational efficiency. A strong advocate of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, Dr. Dutt has integrated sustainability into the core business strategy, with focused efforts on reducing carbon footprint and enhancing stakeholder value. She has prioritized excellence in quality systems and ensured that they are consistently monitored, upgraded, and aligned with global standards. Committed to the philosophy of inclusive growth, Dr. Indira Dutt actively supports Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives beyond statutory requirements. She runs schools near the manufacturing units in Chennai and Macherla and during the pandemic, facilitated the installation of oxygen plants to meet urgent healthcare needs. She also promotes Skill Development aimed at creating employment opportunities for the local communities. Dr. Dutt contributes extensively to the broader business and entrepreneurial ecosystem. She currently serves as the President of the Andhra Chamber of Commerce, and has previously held esteemed positions such as: • Chairperson, SAARC Chamber Women Entrepreneur Council (SCWEC) – the first Indian to hold this post • President, FICCI Ladies Organization (FLO) – the women’s wing of FICCI • President, World Telugu Federation – where she continues to promote Telugu language, literature, and culture Among her many contributions to cultural heritage, the Telugu Heritage Museum in Visakhapatnam, established under her guidance, stands as a significant landmark. Dr. Indira Dutt is also an accomplished author. She has authored the biography of her late husband, Dr. V. Lakshman Dutt, which was released by the former Hon’ble Vice President of India. A role model for women in leadership, Dr. V.L. Indira Dutt exemplifies visionary leadership, ethical governance, and a deep commitment to societal well-being. Her journey reflects how purpose-driven leadership can make a profound impact on both business and society.

Ms. Manisha Kelkar is a seasoned HR leader and the Chief Human Resources Officer at Nuvoco Vistas Corporation Limited. With over two decades of rich experience across manufacturing and services sectors, she brings deep expertise in HR transformation, change management, and industrial relations. Since joining Nuvoco in 2009, she has been instrumental in building a future-ready, purpose-driven, and inclusive organisation. In 2021, she was elevated to the role of CHRO where she continues in shaping Nuvoco’s organisational structure and culture, aligning HR strategy with evolving business goals. She has led initiatives across the spectrum—from talent management and leadership development to employee engagement, diversity and inclusion, and digital HR transformation. She strongly believes in the motto that a great workplace is where each employee is encouraged to follow their passion, invest in lifelong learning, thrive together towards individual along with contributions towards organisational goal. This vision has led the company to receive several accolades, including being recognised as a Most Preferred Workplace in the Manufacturing Industry (FY 2022–23 & 2023–24), and featured among the Progressive Places to Work by ET Now (FY 2024-25) Prior to Nuvoco, Ms. Kelkar held key roles at organisations such as Crompton Greaves, RPG Enterprises, Morgan Stanley, and WNS Global Services. She holds a Master’s degree in Management Studies (HR) from Mumbai University and is an ICF-certified coach. Additionally, she is a trained practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Process-Oriented Psychology, and Organisation Development (ISABS). A passionate advocate of continuous learning, she actively contributes to industry forums focused on leadership development, coaching, and education. Through her visionary leadership, Ms. Kelkar continues to elevate Nuvoco’s people agenda—building an agile, empowered, and performance-driven workforce ready to meet the demands of tomorrow.

Aditi Mittal is a Deputy Executive Director and heads Investor Relations, and Media & Corporate Communications at Dalmia Bharat Limited. She has been associated with the company for over six years and is an integral part of the young leaders at the company. With a dual responsibility of two strategic functions, Aditi is responsible for purposefully positioning the company with the company’s external stakeholders including the shareholders and the media. Aditi has more than 16 years of work experience with companies across the real estate and financial services segment. In her earlier role, she was with Oberoi Realty Limited where as part of the Chairman’s office she strategized and led sales of a premium residential project, headed its investor relations and lead many strategic initiatives including the digitization of sales. Prior to that she had also worked with McKinsey & Company and Price Waterhouse Coopers. Aditi has done her Masters in Business Administration from the prestigious Indian School of Business at Hyderabad and she is also a Qualified Chartered Accountant from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. She has done her B.Com Honours from Delhi University and has multiple academic accolades to her credit.

Pooja currently serves as the Corporate HR Head at JK Cement. She has been with us since September 2019. She has been instrumental in designing and deploying strategic talent management initiatives and policies that have significantly contributed to the organisation. Her work includes implementing processes which touch on various facets of the employee life cycle. 

Nidhi currently serves as Group General Counsel at JK Cement, where she leads our entire legal department. She brings a lot of varied industry exposure and legal know how to the organisation. She has independently handled multiple legal matters which have been of strategic importance to the organisation. 

My interest to operate and control the process of cement manufacturing took shape when I joined India Cements. Having secured a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from University of South Florida, training in instrumentation and knowledge on quality parameters has given me confidence in plant operations from CCR with deep understanding on process measurements and calculations. The American Association of University Women, awarded Excellence in Service Award for outstanding contribution to the American Association of University Women in Engineering during my Post graduation in 2017. The Paper “An Intelligent Hand Gesture Recognition System using Fuzzy logic “which I presented at the IET 4 th International Conference on Sustainable energy and Intelligent Systems was published in IET Digital library during my undergraduate Studies. With technology, taking the lead and AI and IOT becoming the deciding factors of manufacturing process, my passion to learn, drives me to continuously update and gain insight in process control and automation.
