International Women’s Day is celebrated by CMA each year bringing to the fore the various roles being played by women in the Cement Industry in India, in keeping with this intent, CMA launched its initiative Women of Cement in 2022. CMA applauds and would like to highlight the women in the Cement fraternity. Women of Cement celebrates the resilience, strength and commitment of women in the Cement Industry and we call them, the Women of Cement.

Meet the Women of Cement

Mrs. Sukanya Goswami is working as Senior Manager – CSR, as Head of CSR Department in Star Cement Ltd for a continuous service of six and half years and worked in leadership position for a total period of 8 years overseeing Corporate Social Responsibilities in Cement Manufacturing Industry in North Eastern Region. • As Senior Manager CSR, responsible for Design of CSR Policy Framework, Planning of CSR Projects, Budget Preparation, Ensure proper implementation of CSR projects in three states Assam & Meghalaya and West Bengal through CSR state level teams, documentation of CSR project activities, Collaboration with Government, Quasi Government and Non-Governmental Departments, Stakeholder Management, ensure Third Party Evaluation and Impact Assessment, Social Audit, Need Assessment Study etc. • The CSR initiates taken up in Education sector, Community Development programs were appreciated through Awards and recognition like World CSR Congress – ET Now, Education Today, Telegraph Education Award, 7th Enabling North East Award etc. • Within a few years, under her leadership, the CSR Teams in different states of Star Cement Ltd could bring about a positive foot print in operational areas thereby enhancing the brand image of the company. Total 22 years of experience of in CSR and development sector comprising of Community Development, NGO management, Socio economic analysis of externally funded projects etc. a few of which were funded by World Bank, Asian Development Bank also. Completed Masters in Economics and LLB from Guwahati University, MBA (HR), and Bachelor of Education (B Ed)

Sumbul is the Head of HR Operations in Star Cement, managing the entire portfolio of Employee Life Cycle including HR Processes, Compensation & Benefits and HR Automation. In this role she is responsible for bringing in process improvements and efficiencies through in depth analysis and incorporating market best practices.In her career spanning over 15 years she has worked in leadership roles across Media, FMCG and Cement Industry handling a variety of profiles including Talent Management, Compensation & Benefits, Learning & Development and HR Business partnering. Sumbul is a Post Graduate in HR and prior to joining Star Cement, she has worked in PepsiCo India and Zee Entertainment Ltd. Sumbul has worked extensively in the area of HR Policies, HR Process automation, Compensation Structure design, Salary Planning, Compensation Benchmarking, Sales Incentive Schemes, Capability Building, Senior Leadership Development programs and Succession Planning as well as driving innovative people management initiatives to support the business strategy.

My Self Smt. Maniung Pde D/O of Shri Lowis Pohlynjar (Retired person from Govt service) and Smt Twelsina Pde (House wife). I have completed my B.E. Electronics & communication from GBPEC Pauri Garhwal, Uttarkhand. I have joined Star Cement in January, 2005 as GET in Instrumentation Department, presently holding the position of Deputy Manager – Instrumentation. My role and Responsible are looking after Raw Mill, crusher (SCL) and VRM (SCML), Shift management in Dept.

Dr. Vaishali Bose manages day to day activities of Medical Centre at GSCL, OPD / IPD Management. Periodical Health check up of employees as per Factories Act, pre employment Health check-up. She ensures Statutory Compliance in all aspects and Liaison Government Officials. Organizing various type of Medical and Health Camps at Sidhee Health Care Centre. Co-ordination with P & A Department for Administrative aspects, M.O. of PHC and CHC, local Civil Hospital for various cases. Organizing First Aid Training and attending emergency cases from Plant. Proper liaisoning of referral cases. To maintain all records as per various Law applicable, look after Para medical staff, rush with emergency patients for further treatment. Internal Trainings for OHSAS and First-Aid, CSR Activities under Health Centre, awareness and Compliance of IMS and Safety norms. Core Group Member of IMS from Health Centre.

Planning, developing and implementing PR strategies. Liaising with, and answering enquiries from media, individuals and other organizations, often via telephone and email. Developing and maintaining the company’s corporate image and identity, which includes the use of logos and signage. Communicating with colleagues and key spokespeople, writing and editing in-house magazines, articles and annual reports. Managing and updating information and engaging with users on social media sites, sourcing and managing speaking and sponsorship opportunities. Maintaining and updating information on the organization’s website. Commissioning market research and managing the PR aspect of a potential crisis situation along with any other assignment given by the management from time to time.

Moumita started her career at ACC in 2006 in the Geocycle business of ACC and played a key role in establishing the Geocycle business in India while working in various roles of increasing significance within Geocycle. She managed the market development activities for both Ambuja and ACC in her role as Business Development Manager till 2012. In 2013 she moved to a Regional Role as business development and communication manager for South East Asia and in 2014 was appointed as Head of Sales for Geocycle in India responsible for revenue generations, executing sales excellence and marketing strategy. She moved to the office of Region Head Asia in 2016 and led a number of key initiatives and projects working closely with markets in India and South East Asia, before moving into the role of National Head Dry Mix & B2B Sales for ACC in 2018.

She took up the role as Head Geocycle Asia and India from June 2020

Moumita holds a MBA in Environmental Management from TERI (Tata Energy Resource Institute) University and a Bachelor of Science in Botany from the University of Delhi
