The Cement Manufacturers' Association (CMA) was felicitated by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, on November 19, 2019 at New Delhi, for its active role and collaboration with the Swachhata hi Seva campaign against single use plastic.
CMA and the Member Companies partnered with the Ministry of Jal Shakti, of Housing and Urban Affairs, of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade.
The first phase from September 11 to October 2, 2019 was about creating awareness against single use plastic in India. CMA and the Member Companies sensitized about 2.25 lakhs people through 545 activities in 377 villages across 17 states of India supplemented with Plastic Ravana initiative, radio jingles and school initiatives.
The second phase involved actual disposal of plastic waste at the cement plants. Over the period of October 2 to October 27, 2019, CMA Member Companies helped dispose of 7.6 lakh tones of plastic waste.
CMA and its Member Companies were felicitated at the 9th International Conference on Sustainable Waste Management towards Circular Economy (9th IconSWM-CE 2019, November 27 - 30, 2019) organised by the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) (DU), Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, for their efforts and partnership with the Swachhata hi Seva campaign.
Ms Aparna Dutt Sharma, Secretary General, CMA, was awarded in the individual category by the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) (DU), Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, at the 9th International Conference on Sustainable Waste Management towards Circular Economy (November 27-30, 2019) for her contribution to the Swachhata hi Seva campaign.
