Cement, Energy and Environment

Diwakar Bishnoi & Rajesh Kumar Rathore JK White Cement Works, Gotan (A division of JK Cement Ltd) SUCCESS STORY OF 2KW SOLAR OFF GRID SYSTEM REPORT AT JK WHITE CEMENT WORKS, GOTAN INTRODUCTION JK White Cement is the first White Cement factory in India , manufacturing White Cement through dry process technology. The Gotan plant was commissioned in 1984 with an ini al produc on capacity of 50,000 tons. It uses technical exper se from F. L. Smidth & Co. of Denmark and state-of-the-art technology with con nuous on- line quality control by microprocessors and X-rays, ensuring the purest white cement. Over the years, con nuous process improvements and modifica ons have increased the plant's produc on capacity to 6, 18, 000 tons per annum . Introduc on of Solar Power Energy Solar power is a form of energy harnessed from the power and heat of the sun's rays. It is renewable, and therefore a “green” source of energy. Needless to say that the Sun is the biggest source of renewable energy for the Earth. The fact is that even though the earth receives only a part of the energy generated by the Sun. The most common way of harnessing energy from the sun is through photovoltaic (PV) panels – those large, mirror-like panels you've likely seen on roo ops, handheld solar devices, and even spacecra . These panels operate as conductors, taking in the sun's rays, hea ng up, and crea ng energy (and electricity). On a larger scale, solar thermal power plants also harness the power of the sun to create energy. Solar power is a virtually unlimited and inexhaus ble resource. As technologies improve and the materials used in PV panels become “greener,” the carbon footprint of solar power becomes smaller and smaller and the technique becomes more accessible to the masses. Solar radia on represents such an infinite source of energy for the Earth. Photovoltaic directly converts solar energy into electricity . They work on the principle of the photovoltaic effect. When certain materials are exposed to light, they absorb photons and release free electrons. This phenomenon is called the photoelectric effect. Photovoltaic effect is a method of producing direct current electricity based on the principle of the photoelectric effect Solar power is con ngent upon the weather and the amount of sunshine present in a specific loca on. This means that geographical areas lacking in sunlight, or areas that frequently experience cloudy weather, may have difficulty u lizing solar power effec vely. Off-grid system is commonly used at loca ons where power from the grid is not available or not reliable. An off-grid solar power system is not connected to any electric grid. It consists of solar panel arrays, storage ba eries and inverter circuits. Innova ve Project: Installa on of Solar Power System at Mines Explosive Storage room surrounding area. Our solar system consists of 6 PV solar panels, each with a capacity of 325W, totalling 1.950KW. The solar panel is connected to a based 2KVA inverter which PCU gives a 220VAC single phase output.
