In keeping with the proac ve sustainability ethos of the Indian Cement Industry that puts it at ease to always respond to the government campaigns and ini a ves wholeheartedly, I am glad to share with you CMA's recent efforts rela ng to sustainability in cement plants. CMAwith the support of Member Cement Companies partnered with the Ministries of Jal Shak , Housing and Urban Affairs, and the Department for Promo on of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on the Swachhata hi Sewa campaign during September and October 2019. A mammoth ini a ve running pan India, it involved awareness drives against single use plas c and its disposal by the Cement Industry. For the impac ul results from this collabora ve effort that went enthusias cally and seamlessly and the recogni on and the awards that have come our way due to such an endeavour, I indeed grateful to the various Ministries and our Member Companies for all their support and con nued encouragement. It was a great learning for us and other partners. If the campaign has to be upscaled, Industry expects collabora vemodels with capacity building in urban local bodies. Sound implementa on and regula on of already exis ng Polluter to Pay principle is the key to achieving success on this front. The recently dra ed Na onal Resource Efficiency Policy (NREP) reinforces the posi ve intent and ambi on towards the cause of wastemanagement, which takes into account this Polluter to Pay principle. th Amongst other notable happenings during the periodwas the 4 CMA Conference&Exhibi on on AFR – CONSERVE - that we successfully organised in New Delhi on September 30 and October 1, 2019, focusing on green and sustainable resources. It saw an ac ve par cipa on of about 300 delegates from the Cement Industry and allied sectors from India and across theworld.
