Cement, Energy and Environment

minerals for future generation. Conclusions Minerals are a valuable Natural Resource being the vital raw material for the core sectors of the economy. Mining contributes to GDP and generates employment apart from acting as a catalyst for the growth of other important industries like Steel, Power, Cement and Aluminium etc. In order to transform India it is necessary to accelerate the growth of mining sector by visualising the ground realties and issues being faced by Industries. The new policy has been construed for exclusive mining zones having in-principle statutory clearances and aims at raising the share of mining in the country's GDP through large scale exploration with priority to deep-sea minerals and by assisting in getting the necessary statutory clearances. Further it talks of increasing mineral production by 200% and reducing the trade deficit in mineral sector by 50 % in seven years. The new policy may transform the headway to the mining sector of India, however, the success will depend on implementation by all stakeholders like Central & state governments, regulators and Industry.
