Cement, Energy and Environment

From the above, it is noted that, consump on in cement industry is about 99 percent of total gypsum consump on in India. During the year 2015-16, apart from Mineral, Marine and by- product gypsum sourced from India, about 4.6 Million tons of mineral gypsum was imported from Oman, UAE, Pakistan & Thailand. The purity of imported gypsum is about 85 percent whereas mineral gypsum from Rajasthan has a quality of 65-75 percent. Because of low purity of Mineral Gypsum produced by Mines in India, a majority of the consumers is either moving to imported gypsum or a blend of mineral gypsum with high purity Phosphor chemical gypsum. Synthe c Gypsum (SG) – Expected capacity & Quality The Product of FGD is Gypsum and as it is not natural gypsum, it is called Synthe c Gypsum (SG). SG of FGD is going to be available in large quan es in India in future as all Power plants have to install FGDs for Control of SO , 2 With present power genera on capacity of coal based power plants in India, it is es mated that the SG genera on by Power sector is going to be ~ 23 Million Tons per year. This SG capacity can en rely meet the gypsum demand of the country in future, considering the growth projec ons of Cement & wall board industries. At present these two industries, consume about 99% of all types of gypsum consump on in India. Expected Quality of SG The purity of SG generated by FGD is expected to be 82- 88percent depending on the purity of Limestone used. The SG will have moisture of less than 12percentwith fineness of 100 percent passing 200 microns and the temperature at Absorp on tower outlet is about 50 deg C. The Expected Quality of SG by FGD as compared to other types of Gypsum is given below. Gypsum Mineral As By Product Synthe c Phospho Chemical Source Natural Fer lizer Industry Chemical Industries FGD of Power Plants Purity 60-80% Indian 85-90 (imported) 88-90% 80-85% 80-88% Moisture < 3% 15-20% 10-15% 10-12% Fineness <300 mm (ROM) <200 microns < 200 microns < 200 microns Nature Neutral Traces of acidity 51
