It is one of the most valuable assets for any industry to survive. It is required in operations, process, maintenance, utilities and etc. However in cement industry direct requirement of water in manufacturing or any other major process is negligible, as water is just required for the cooling purpose and in other daily utilities. JK Lakshmi Cement limited (JKLCL)- Standalone Grinding Unit Kalol is more than committed towards conservation and management of water resources. Management, Planning and Strategies for water conservation practices are embedded at each level of the Management System, which provides a holistic approach towards becoming water neutral. JKLCL unit Kalol stands up as a paragon in entire state of Gujarat to implement and practice water conservation methodologies since its inception in 2009. Practices from installation of most innovated scientifically designed Rainwater Harvesting System to flow regulation in washroom taps, unit has innovated and implemented the most possible measures for water conservation management. Water Consumption and Ground water Recharge and footprint for per tonne of cement manufactured, which is about 0.035 Kllton to cement. Recharging of water tank through rooftop rainwater helps reduction in fresh water withdrawal from ground resource required in plant for cooling process. Treated water from Sewage Treatment Plant is used for maintaining greenbelt and plantation, which has further reduced the Fresh water consumption . Innovative Rainwater Harvesting Since its Construction Phase Plant-Kalol was designed keeping an idea of water conservation methodology in mind, so that not even a single drop of rain water could go waste as runoff. Best technology rainwater harvesting structures are existing with scientifically designed drains within the premises in order to maximize the recharge to the ground water resource & to meet cooling tank requirement. All possible Roofs are developed inclined in order to maximize rain water harvesting, gutters with downpipe are installed at the roof ends to channelize the rainwater to the recharge pit. Total roof top catchment area is about 3058 sq. Meters, which recharges on an average about 1564.6 KL/year Ground Water Resource. Total 6 Nos. of scientifically designed Rain Water Following proficient guidelines, today JKLCL Harvesting Structures in total recharged about unit Kalal is proud to say that it is one of the most 21032 KL of Ground water resource in year efficient water positive standalone grinding unit in 2014-15. Due to best water management the country. 41 % reduction in fresh water practices being followed at the plant, difference in consumption has been recorded since 2011. water abstraction and ground water recharge is Unit has taken steps further in calculating its water widening day by day as shown in figure below. 36 (
