Mumbai, pp. 161-169 The pre se nt energy audit scheme at the II kY feeder level is shown to be fraught with numerous disadvantages, the primary ofwhich is its inability to provide a strategy for loss minimizing in the high loss feede rs. So a lso, the existing di s tributed consumer metering system is known to provide ample scope for tampe r of meters and pilfe rage of energy. This paper describes a fool-proof metering system that is hi ghl y resistant to tamper and enables the utilities to effect ively curb losses in its LT distribution system. ( Proceedings Int e rnational Confer ence on Energy Conservation, Audit & Metering, 2-1-25 Jan. 02, Mumabi, pp. 258-2()-1). Today all over the world utiliti es a re operating in a comp etiti ve and deregulate d environment. "Metering" assumes m ve ry critical importance in the entire reform process of utilities , in addressing the issues concerned with "revenue'' , "collection'', ' improved customer satisfaction" and "imp roved system pe rforman ce". As the " energy business" is becoming more and more compet itive day by day, the need to be able to communicate very effectively and more ti-cquently wi th the "consume r'' and '"consumer mete r" is becom ing almos t imperati ve. Perhaps thi s could be the most compelling·reason for the utilities consider dep loyment of "AMR' and 'prepayment' systems on a much serious note. The present day technological advancements in the field s of e lectron ic s, data process ing, metering and communicati on have made it possible to offer' state of art' AMR and prepayment system with a vast arrangement of features and at very affordab le prices. An attempt is made in thi s paper to briefly summari se va riou s AMR and prepayment technologies available today as well as the benefit they offer bo th to the utilit ies and consumers. Further a suggested approach in implementation ofpilot and commercial projects deploying AM R and prepayment meters is brietly touched upon. Finally an overv iew of the "MSEB-AMR'" Pi lot project cu rrentl y under implementation is described. Courte.\y : Water & Energy Abstracfs, C/JlP. Jan -Mar.(J2, P 16-1 7. Mumhui. pp. 251 -257) Ferraris Wheel meters have served the indust ry and the power utilit ies worldw ide for over a hund red years . The changed info rmation requi remen ts of the Electricity producers, tr<msmitters, sellers and consumers have lead to the adopti on or the state-of-the art electronic meters in most countries across the world. In Incl ia, the wide acceptance o f static meter ing technology was led by various utilities because of th e ir req uirement for sustained accuracy and tampe r detection. Indian uti lities are. now fu lly convinced about the functionali ty and reliability of static meters and are now demanding advanced features to meet their informati on. plan ni ng, revenue protecti on requ iremen ts. Author has taken the sector wise emerging needs and how metering technology helps add ress these issues. Courfesy : IVafer & Energy. lbstracfs. CBIP. Jan. -Mar 02.
