Cement Energy and Environment

2. Actions Taken For safety & Fire Hazards for the AFR Utilization: The material safety & fire hazard data are studied and with the due permission from respective state/ central pollution control boards such wastes are co processed in the pyro system. All the incoming solid waste/liquid waste/AFR is received in covered approved trucks and is also stored in separate AFR yard under covered condition. Persons handling the waste are duly trained by the competent persons, using PPEs.Their health is also checked by the trained doctors. SOP is displayed at site for effectiveness. Daily safety tool talk is done by safety officer along with incharge of AFR Team. 3. Present usage of AFR at JK Cement Mangrol JK Cement Mangrol is using various solid waste and the TSR for the year 2014-15 was 6.2% with consumption of 6428 tons of AFR , while in 2015-16, the TSR was 2.6% with 2925 tons. Similarly for the substitution of fossil fuel , we have utilized 49855 tons of petroleum coke out of 64616 tons , which is 77.0% of the total fuel consumption in 2014-15, resulting the huge conservation of fossil fuel. In 2015-16 we have utilized approx. 3000.00 2000.00 1000.00 0.00 80% of petcoke out of the total fuel consumption. Now in 2016-17 JK Cement Mangrol has a target for a TSR of 15% minimum. The below mentioned graph depicts the current utilization of AFR along with TSR %. lzsze.ool 15.00 10.00 5.00 0.00 Jun-16 Jul-16 Aua-16 Stp·16 Quantity (Ts) - TSR% 4. Challenges for the utilization of AFR Availability of AFR in the vicinity of cement plant is not much and is not available rour,d the year. Transportation, handling, meeting the emission norms. adjusting process to suit AFR etc. are challenges faced in increasing usage of AFR. Large investment is needed for using AFR but advantage of polluters to pay is not much coming to cement industry. 5. Environmental impact Utilization of AFR & other waste helps in reducing C02 emissions and making waste a wealth. Environmental norms are becoming more and more stringent for such applications. It ultimately helps the nation to conserve natural resources and keeping the ecological balance for sustainable development. 6. Way Forward for the Co-Processing of AFR We Have received due authorization from CPCB for the Co-processing of Hazardous Waste generated from different industries. We have a target to Co-process 15% per month AFR (TSR) at Mangrol from present 9.6% TSR in Sept-16. 9
