Cement, Energy and Environment

As a part of regular interactions with Authorities on issues that impact on the Cement indus try, CMA continued to give focussed attention to issues pertaining to BIS & Quality, Energy, and Environment alongwith other outreach activities. BIS ISSUES Sub-Group BIS Meeting of CMA Technical Committee he ld at CMA Noida office on 2nd Ja nuary 2014. Technical Committee of CMA in its 59th Meeting held in Mumbai on 24th January 2014 deliberated on various BlS issues placed before it, which were earlier discussed in its Sub– Group Meeting on 2nd January 2014, including the responses of the Member Cement Companies to the Draft Indian Standards for Clinl<e r I Amendments for Public Comments, that were subsequently forwa rded to BlS fo r their consideration. Comments received by BIS from CMA, and other s takeholders on the Draft Indian Standards Specification on Portland Cement Clinker were discussed in its 4th Meeting of the BIS Cement and Concrete Panel CEO 2:1/P1 on 27th February 2014. The Panel cons idered the comments, the recommendations of which were subsequently approved by BIS in its 21st Meeting of the Cement and Concrete Sectional Committee (CEO 2) held on 14 111 March 2014. Most of the amendments/revisions sugges ted by the CMA members were agreed upon and duly incorporated. Some of the Committee's further decis ions whi le endorsing the recommendations of the Panel, and finalis ing the Draft with their incorporation, for ADOPTION and PUBLICATION, relate to, i. Having LSF requirement as 0.66 to 1.02 to take care of clinker for any variety of cement. II. Ill. Having S03 content requirement as 2.7 % max to accommodate the scenario of increasing use of pet coke. Granulometric composition of clinker to be as per Table below keeping in view the practical considerations including increased use of pet coke: Sl. No. Clinker Proportion Size by mass, Percent i) <Smm 35, Max ii) 5 - SO mm 60, Min iii) >SOmm 10, Max ENERGY ISSUES- Implementation of BEE's PAT Scheme Subsequent to the Meeting of the BEE Sub– Technical Committee(NormalizationjCement Sector), and the 7th Meeting of the Technical Committee(Cement Sector) of BEE held on lQth January 2014 that considered the DCs' feedback, CMA forwarded its comments to BEE rais ing some of the key issues on the decisions of the BEE Sub-Technical Commi ttee (Normalization/Cement Sector), involving, (i) Impact of Quality of Alternate Fuel in Assessment Year, (ii) Inadequate Fly Ash Quantity in Assessment Year, (iii) Quality of coal used in Kiln, (iv) Limestone Grindability, (v) Addition of New Line after Baseline Year I (vi) Frequent Grid power tripping, (vi i) Use of baseline Clinker factor in Assessment Yea r, (viii) Additional safety equipment installation in Assessment Year, and (ix) Energy consumed on project activity and installation of energy effi cient equipment. The Cement Industry is now awaiting the circulation of norms by BEE subject to their updation of the Form 1. Thereafter, BEE will organise/conduct four Regional Awareness
