OBITUARY Dr Debashish Ghosh (01.04.1949- 22.03.2014 ) Dr Debashish Ghosh, Sr Joint President, New Projects and R & D, Birla Corporation Limited and Member of CMA Technical Committee breathed his last on 22 March 2014, after a brief illness. A veteran of the cement indus fly, s tarting with the then Cement Research Institute of India as a Scientist way back in 1977, Dr. Debashish Ghosh had a long stint ofassociation with ACC, with elevation as Managing Director of A CC 's Damoc/ar Cement and Slag Ltd. , in 1998. Subsequently. he was with Birla C01poration Ltd., wherein his major landmark contributions to cement indusll y included setting up Durga Hitech Cement for Birla Co1poratio n. Dr. Ghosh was one of the Key Members of the Techincal Committee of Cement Manufacturers' Association (CMA), besides a memher of the Technical Committee (Cement SectOJ)for Bureau ofEnergy Efficiency. As a member of the Cement & Concrete Section of the Bureau of Indian Standards, he was instrumental in the development of various BJS standards related to Cement besides Ene rgy and Environmental matters. Dr Ghosh with excellent academic and R&D background hac/to his credit about 40 research papers, published by National and International Journals. Dr Ghosh was ahvays ready to take on responsibility on critical issues, which would come upfi·om time to time. He was an excellent mentor and a great human being. An amiable person by nature, he was ah1•ays approach able and liberal with his advice to anyone who sought it.
