Cement, Energy & Environment Jan-Mar 2002
• Annual savings of 3,743,372 kWh of electrical energy and 4,788 MTCR of thermal energy. • Annual savings of Rs 220 lakh. In addition to the energy saved, there would also be improvement in productivity (about 150 TPD annually), the favourable financial impact of which has not been taken in the financial analysis for the project. The project has as IRR of 51 per cent and simple payback period of about 2.5 years, which shows the attractiveness of the investment. Currently under implementation, the project is likely to be completed by March 2002. IREDA is willing to finance similar energy efficiency retrofit projects in the cement industry and other sectors subject to techno– financial viability of the proposals. The strategy behind the Model Projects involves the provision of energy efficient equipment to energy intensive industries, demonstration of the effectiveness of such equipment for energy conservation and/ or environmental protection, and assistance in the dissemination of such equipment throughout the industry in question. For implementing Mod.el Projects in India, an umbrella MOU was concluded between NEDO and the Ministry of Finance, Department of EconomicAffairs, Government of India, in 2000. The target technologies are: •!• Energy conservation technology •!• Oil-alternative energy technology Clean coal technology 35
