- ENERGY CONSERVATION ROUND-UP Seminar on Energy Effidency-Concepts, Strategy and Business Opportunities, New Delhi The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised a one-day seminar on "Energy efficiency : Concepts, strategy and business opportunities" on 21 January 2000 in New Delhi. The seminar was inaugurated by Shri V.K. Pandit , Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India. The seminar had three Technical Sessions as under : Session Session II Session Ill Energy efficiency -The concepts and strategy Energy conseNation -The ESCO way Financing of energy efficiency projects During the technical sessions, case study presentations were made highlighting the ene rgy efficiency improvement options in steam engineering, boilers and compressed air systems as well as the corporate approach and benchmarking techniques for energy efficiency. The various financial institutions, such as fREDA . lOBI and ADB also made presentations highlighting the salient features of energy efficiency financing schemes being operated by them. Case studies were also presented by various energy seNice companies (ESCO's) regarding their experiences in the field of energy conseNation. Interaction Meet on Business Opportunities In Energy Management in Industrial Sector, New Delhi An interaction meet on Business Opportunities in Energy Management in Industrial Sector. organised by Consultancy Development Centre (CDC), was held on 31 January 2000 in New Delhi. Technical presentations related to case studies on energy management/ conservation were made by Tata Energy Research Institute (TERJ). Petroleum Conservation Research 21 Association (PCRA). Thermax, National Productivity Council (NPC) , Energy Management Centre , etc. Realising the need for encouraging energy management, various financing schemes have been introduced by financial institutions. Salient features of such schemes were presented by Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd (IREDA), Industrial Development Bank of India (lOBI), USAID and IFCI. Policy framework for promotion of energy conseNation was also discussed by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) representative; this covered various aspects of constraints , possible options for supply side and demand side management and the thrust, government is giving on energy conseNation . The role of 'Energy SeNices Companies (ESCO)' was discussed in the meet highlighting their business opportunities in India. National Seminar on Energy Efficient Technologies In Cement Industry, Hyderabad The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), jointly with the Cement Manufacturers ' Association (CMA) , organised the above seminar at Hyderabad during 3- 4 March 2000. The inaugural of address was given by Shri P R Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha, Chairman &. Managing Director, Madras Cements Ltd. A Special Address was delivered by Padmashri Dr. H.C. Visvesvaraya , Chairman , Continuing Education Programme of the AICTE, who was the Chief Guest of Honour. About 80 executives of Indian cement industry and equipment suppliers from India and abroad participated in the seminar. On the first day, 9 papers were presented in three Technical Sessions on Pyre-processing covering latest pyre-processing technologies including modern cooler technologies. In the four Technical Sessions on the second day, 9 papers and 4 case studies were presented on energy efficien t grinding technologies and energy conseNation efforts in cement plants.
