Benefits: Avoided discharge of spent wash waste into the land, which is an environmental friendly initiative 1.9 Usage of Alternative Raw material-Lime Sludge Background: • Lime sludge like Cement raw materials contains the oxides of Calcium, Silicon , Aluminum and Iron besides some minor constituents sulphur etc . Goal: • 1.0% Replacement of Raw material (Limestone) by Lime sludge by March'12. • Adopting to protect the Environment by utilizing the Hazardous Waste Materials (Natural resources). Initiative: • Around 6 Lakhs tons of Lime Sludge available Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Erode, Karur and Salem area within 150-200 km from Ariyalur plant. • We have collected more samples from various Effluent treatment plant Units in Tiruppur • Sample Acceptance Letter issued to all the thirteen Suppliers to facilitate them for getting Authorization from Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB). • We have obtained Authorization from TNPCB for Collection, Storage and Disposal of Chemical Sludge for Co-Processing in the Cement Kiln @ 150 TPD. • Total quantity of 2394 MT of Lime sludge has been received and it was co-processed in our kiln. Challenge: Result: This is an initiative as part of eco-friendly drive to use waste material as useful alternate raw material and appreciated by the Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB), Government of Tamilnadu. 2.0 Utilization of Alternate Fuel - Solid Waste Mix (GEPIL) Challenges • Hazardous waste • Quality Variation • Handling • TNPCB Authorization • Transportation • Sticky property Action • Closed shed provided for storage • Separate Crane and Hydra are being used for unloading • Separate Bin was installed, which is facilitated easy for continuous flow of material for better inter-grinding • Effective training given for material handling persons • To produce Quality of Clinker with close • All samples have been approved by our QC monitoring department for CO-Processing & for remaining • • samples likely to get shortly. Storage Shed The material received is having high Moisture & Iron content which forces to reduce the consumption. We are taking necessary actions with the suppliers & Liasoning agent to reduce the moisture and iron content in further supplies. Respective Supply Units are also has to obtain Authorization from TNPCB for effecting supply to us. 9
