T:enty-one companies including National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) have proposed to set up wind power projects with an aggregate capacity of 186 MW in six states. Karnataka Indo Wind Energy, Devlina Power, Enercon Wind Farms, 27.66MW Jindal Aluminium Renewable Energy System MAHARASHTRA INCENTIVES FOR WIND ENERGY T he Maharashtra Government has set a target of 100 MW of wind power this year and announced a series of incentives to woo private sector for investing in this field. These include sales tax benefits, option of selling the power to the State Electricity Board or third party, among others. According to the State Secretary, Energy and Environment, Maharashtra can easily contribute at least l00 MW this year to achieve the national target of Courtesy : Times ofIndia 9 August 1999 1000 MW. Accordingly wind turbines were being set up on sites selected on the basis of a wind resource assessment study done by the government. The government has also set up evacuation facilities through extra high voltage substations at the selected sites. The state already has 25 MW of wind power installed during 1998-99. As per the Indian Institute of Meteorology, the state has an immediate potential of 100 MW. 12 }- ~ . •
