Cement and Energy
• Eventually, a method was found to operate the kiln and feed the mineraliser components without risking blackings. Today , most cement sold in Denmark is made from mineralised clinker. New Plant Design One question that will be asked is "Will conversion from standard to mineralised clinker require modifications to plant design? In fact when a standard cement plant converts from normal production to mineralised cement, only a few design modifications will have to be made. They will mostly be concentrated on the handling equipment and feed systems for the mineraliser components. If the mineralising minerals are fluorspar and natural gypsum a small grinding installation is often needed. A feed s ilo and a feed and transportation system might in some cases be necessary for each component. In other cases, combined grinding of the components in the raw mill will be sufficient. Conclusion The combination of mineralised cement, new cl inker grinding method and blended cements with fine filler materials means a drastic cut in energy consumption. This in tum contri butes to a cleaner cement industry with lower emissions of NOx and C0 2 and enables the use of secondary raw materials and fuels as well as the recycl ing of certain waste materials. These developments represent a major step in making cement as an even more ecologically attractive construction material.
