CEE Oct-Dec 2012

CMA Activities on the Technical Front The Technical Committee of CMA alongwith its Task Forces on Environment and Energy met in Mumbai on sth October 2012. Meanwhile, Sub-Groups of the Technical Committee also met at various locations to implement the decisions taken in the above Technical Committee meetings. The Sub-Group on Environment met in Gandhi nagar on 21st September 2012, and again in Hyderabad on 27th November 2012. The second Sub– Group on SIS/Quality Issues met at CMA Noida office twice during the period, on 26th September 2012 and 28th December 2012. The Sub-Group meetings witnessed larger participation of younger executives from Cement Plants in line with the objectives for an inclusive participation of younger talents to express their views in the del iberations of the Technical Committee. BEE'S PAT SCHEME For Implementation of BEE's PAT Scheme on Energy Efficiency in Indian Cement Plants, the Normalization Committee of BEE met on 17th October 2012 and on 23rd_24th November 2012, and identified the list of key factors. The Committee also crystallised the specific methodology to address each parameter for further consideration. The various parameters affecting Normalization of SEC (Specific Energy Consumption) included: • Clinker Heat Rate and clinkering electrical energy versus clinker capacity utilization of the kiln. • Coal GCV vs CPP Heat rate. • Specific Heat Rate to be considered for export of Power from Cement Plant CPP. • Specific heat rate of kiln for calculating Notional energy of imported clinker should be based on GCV or NCV. • CPP heat rate versus PLF. • Raw material quality. • Change of major product and change of clinker factor of the minor products (Baseline period versus assessment year). • Energy losses due to frequent outage of the grid power. • Non-avai labi lity of Biomass. • Mandatory usage of industrial/ municipal waste which are having adverse impact on specific thermal energy. • Use of raw slurry with variable moisture content (Sri ram Cement). • Differential Renewable Energy Import. • Full or Partial plant/ mines shutdown due to statutory directives during the PAT cycle (2012 - 2015), etc. INITIATIVES FOR INCREASING THERMAL SUBSTITUTION RATE (TSR) IN INDIAN CEMENT INDUSTRY: liP - CMA PROJECT The Project has further progressed in addressing the issue and long- pending concerns and the quest of the Indian Cement Industry for increasing the use of alternate fuels in Cement Plants to rep lace the fast depleting coa l resources.
