Sustainable Infrastructure GOVT NOD LIKELY FOR 11 ROAD PROJECTS WORTH RS.15000 CR The government is likely to give nod for construction of 11 road projects worth about Rs. 15,000 crore this week, government official said. "Road Mi nistry has sent a proposal for building 11 highway projects to the Public-private partnership approval committee (PPPAC), may be all of them would be cleared," an official in the ministry said. "Sitarganj-Kashipur, Chakri-AIIahabad, Hospet– Hubli , Benaras-Gorakhpur; Rohtak-Hissar, Rajasthan border-Fatehabad , Rajasamand-Bhilwara stretches are some of the 11 projects which are likely to get PPPAC clearance". The total estimated cost of these projects, which cut across Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh , Maharashtra, Karnataka etc. , would be Rs 15,000 crore. "Some are Rs 1,000 crore projects some more than Rs. 1,000 crore," the official added. All the projects are being set up under various phases of National Highway Development Programme (NHDP) of the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways. The report, titled lnfrastructu re100: World Cities Edition , was released at the World Cities Summit 2012 in Singapore. The projects highlighted in the report were selected by independent judging panels of industry experts from five regions of the world: Asia Pacific, North America Latin America, Europe and the Middle East, and Africa. Projects were then divided into 10 project categories - Urban Mobility, Global Connectivity, Urban Regeneration, Education, Healthcare, Water, New and Extended Cities, Recycling and Waste Management, Urban Energy Infrastructure and Communications Infrastructure. This recognition is a matter pride for India shows that the process of urbanization in India, to a great extent, is heading in the right direction. Here we look at the projects that made it to this elite list. Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor (Global Connectivity): The $90 bil lion Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project was placed second among the 100 most innovative projects. The site spans 19.6 hectares and was ope rational f rom 1972 to 2009.
