CMA - CSI Collaboration CMA Managing Committee has approved CMA becoming Communication Partner of Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI), the Cement Sectoral Implementation Arm of the Geneva Based World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). With this, CMA shall now have access to CSI publications, events etc. for further capacity building and dissemination of information to the Cement Plants of the Member Cement Companies for their benefits. MoU between CNBM International Engineering Co. Ltd. (CNBM), NCB & Shabro Metals & Technologies Ltd. (SMTL) The above MoU has been signed between CNBM (China ), NCB and M/s . Shabro Metals & Technologies Ltd . (SMTL) for utilization of expertise in the areas of energy conservation, waste heat recovery system, low grade limestone utilization, which is expected to be very beneficial for the Indian Cement Industry in the long run. It may be mentioned here that CNBM is the single largest cement producer in the world producing about 210 MTPA of cement. A presentation on the various aspects of the MoU was made by the representatives of NCB and SMTL at the 51st CMA Technical Committee Meeting held in Chennai on 7th January 2012. The presentation highlighted the scope for the cement industry to draw advantages from the collabora tion particularly through the Chinese know-how. CMA- CII Joint Initiatives on Increasing AFR Usage: Team Visit Europe Under the CMA - CII project on Joint Initiatives towards enhancing the AFR (Alternative Fuel Resources) usage in Indian Cement Industry, a 14 Member Indian delegation comprising 8 Members from State and Central Pollution Control Boards, 2 from CII, and 4 from the Cement Industry and CMA visited plants in Europe during 8th- 14th December 2012 to capture actual usage of various AFR. A presentation on the highlights of the key observations made during the vis it jointly by Dr. S.K . Handoo and Shri Naveen Kumar Sharma was circulated in the 52"d quarterly Meeting of the CMA Technica l Committee held in Hyderabad on 6th April 2012. Green Procurement Under the project on Green Public Procurement (GPP), CII had sought the views of the concerned stakeholders for the proposed guidelines for the procurement of the products covered viz., Paper, Pharmaceuticals, Electric Appliances, Water Cooler Purifier, Public Works (Cement/Bricks/Steel), IT equipment, Office Furniture, Lighting and Mobile Phone. CMA provided its specific comments on the Eco- mark Cement besides the consideration for Energy Consumption, Emission Norms, Fly Ash/ Slag Content in Cemen t and Technology. CMA's comments have been incorporated in the Draft Report submitted by CII to MoEF. CMA Team Visits ARCI, Hyderabad An 8 Members CMA Team led by Shri N.A. Viswanathan, Secretary General, CMA, visited the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials, Hyderabad on 6th April 2012, and had discussions with the key personnel, namely, Dr. Tata Narasinga Rao, Scientist ' F' and Team Leader - Centre for Nano Materials and Sh ri Kaliyan Hembram, Scientist, Centre for Nano Materials, on various aspects of developments in Nano Materia ls and possible application in cement manufacturing/usage towards energy and resource conservati on. Dr. Rao and his team made a presentation on the subject and then took the visiting CMA Team around the laboratory. The other Members in the CMA Team included S/ Shri S.K .
