-:--.. .. Events Brief "' - CMA- Cll 8TH GREEN CEMENTECH CONFERENCE The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and CMA organised the 8th Green Cementech 2012 in Hyderabad during May 24 - 25, 2012. Leading manufacturers and technology providers addressed the conference attended by a large number of senior representatives from cement industry, icluding CMA- President Shri M.A.M.R. Muthiah, Secretary General Shri N.A. Viswanathan, and Chairman Green Cementech 2012 Shri G. Jayaraman. I) Delivering the key note address in the Inaugural Session, Shri Muthiah underlined the immense potential for emission reduction in Indian Cement industry and that it can be a forerunner in this direction. He called on the need for cement industry to respond quickly and effectively to global warming concerns. Adding further, he said, to address these issues, cement sector needs to work at two basic levels - explore alternative energy sources and work more closely with the Government to create an enabling environment for expanding the industry. In his address, Shri Viswanathan recognised the efforts of Cll and CMA in harnessing the resources of both these organisations in the areas of environment and related issues to achieve greater synergy in addressing issues germane to "Making the Indian Cement Industry World Class in Green" through this Conference. In the backdrop of a high trajectory of growth and transformation towards achieving newer goals, the Indian Cement industry has already become a front runner on key issues like energy efficiency and sustainability, he said. The need of the hour is to create a conducive climate and regulatory framework for enhancing clinker and fossil fuel substitution that would make the Indian Cement industry world class green, Shri Viswanathan advocated. The Conference spread in 9 Technical Sessions over the two days focused on deliberations on topics that have impact on cement manufacturing operations and sustainable development of the Industry. In the Master Speaker Session, Dr S.K. Handoo, Advisor (Technical}, CMA, made a presentation on Indian Cement Industry - Current Status, Challenges & Prospects. CMA had also put up a stall at the Conference where the visitors showed lot of Interest in its publications covering a wide range of activities. 68
