Clinker production increased from 40.5Mt in 2007 to 45.3Mt in 2009, up at 11.9 percent. • Local consumption witnessed remarkable growth, with demand for cement increasing from 39.8Mt in 2007 to 46.3Mt in 2009; i.e. , up at 16.3 per cent on 2007 figures. • Imports, with the growth of local demand, increased from 446,000t in 2007-2008 to 2Mt in 2009, up at 352 per cent; this growth was concentrated in Algeria, Libya and Mauritania. VDMA INDIA: INDO-GERMAN BRIDGEHEAD The Indo-German business contacts in the engineering sector and the cement industry have deep-seated roots and have great potential for rapid growth in the future. The liaison office of VDMA, the German Engineering Federation in India provides the Indian Industry with information and contacts in the German industry and supports VDMA member companies in India and those who seek business contacts with a nodal office in Kolkata and regional offices in Mumbai and New Delhi/Noida. Some twenty German manufacturers of building material machinery already produce locally in India, among them cement plant supplier Polysius or mixing specialist Eirich. Right now the office is supporting the German joint pavilion at Excon , a specialized trade show for construction equipment and build ing material machinery to be held in Bangalore from November 23 to 27, 2011. Occupying a total area of more than 2000 m 2 of both indoor and outdoor exhibition space, the presentation will triple its size compared to previous Excon in 2009. With a number of manufacturers exhibiting outside the Pavilion through their Indian subsidiaries, altogether around 50 German companies will present world– leading technologies and energy-efficient equipment at the show.
