Cement Energy and Environment

+ Norms form the essenti al basis for assessino the C> performance of any plant operation. Accordingly, NCB published its first set of Guide norms for cement plant operations in 1988. As technological developments took place over the years, to reflect the consequent changes and improvements in the operations, the second and the third revisions of the Guide norms were brought out in 1989 a nd 1992 res pectivel y. In effect. these encompassed different types of processes, materials and capacities as prevalent in Indian cement indu stry then. Considering the large variations in the raw material used, technological status, degree ofmodernisation and vintage of the plants, only a range of norms is assigned in the different possible categ01ies. The publication prec isely gives such ranges of norms for all unit operations in a cement plant, i.e. from quarry to finish grinding, after identifying in the first instance the impor1ant parameters whic h make for effici e ncy in every one of them. Depending on the operational experience and conditions specific to individual cement plants, they can set their own norms from these, which would then serve as means for internal control and correction. Since updating of norms is a continuous process, the fourth edition of this publication had been recentl y brought out by NCB to fine-tune its applicability under the current technological conditions. Also, eff011s have been made to widen its scope by elaborating the various sections. Notable among these are roller press operations, different grades of OPC cement, lignite grinding, quality control aspects, etc. Keeping in view the ever increasing thrust on energy, a separate section on overall plant and section-wise specific energy consumptions is included for ready reference. HIGHLIGHTS OF NEW EDITION Regrouping of dry process kilns, based upon their capacities viz 600-1500 tpd, 1500-3000 tpd and above 3000 tpd.
