Cement Energy and Environment

Chandaria plant (Birla Corporation) Birla Corporation, an MP Birla Group Company, is one the oldest cement manufacturing organizations. It is adding capacity by installing a 3600 tpd kiln at its site at Chandaria, Rajasthan. A ThermaScope SLK kiln/cooler high-performance radiometric temperature imaging system and a ThermaScope HTV CCTV style non-radiometric high temperature video camera for the monitoring of the kiln/cooler were ordered from Thermoteknix Systems. Chatrasala plant (Vicat Sagar Cement Private Ltd) Vicat Sagar Cement Private Ltd selected Polysius grinding systems for its new plant in Chatrasala, Gulbarga District, in Karnataka. Two POLYCOM® grinding systems will be responsible for grinding the raw material. Each system will consist of a POLYCOM® high– pressure grinding roll and a SEPOL® HR high-efficiency separator and will have a rated output of 250 tph of raw meal. The two cement grinding plants will be operated as combi– grinding systems, i.e. each plant will consist of a POLYCOM®, a STATOSEP® separator, a ball mill and a SEPOL®_ SVC separator. Each grinding plant will produce 200 tph of cement. In addition to this, FLSmidtli has been awarded a contract from Vicate Sagar Cement Private Ltd for plant electrification. The order includes supply of switchyard , power and distribution transformers, medium voltage distribution system, low voltage distribution system including intelligent motor control centres, motors, frequency drives, plant- wide control system and field instrumentation. Finally, FLSmidth has also signed a contract to deliver an 8.4 MW Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) System. The generating system is based upon steam Rankine Cycle technology. Excess hot gases from the preheater and the cooler will be processed into usable power, thereby reducing the dependabil ity of the plant upon the government supplied power. The WHR system delivered to Vicat Sagar Cements will be integrated with the new pyre– line, which is also supplied by FLSmidth. The system is expected to be operational by mid-2012. Chittor plant (Birla Comoration Ltd) The Kolkata-based Birla Corporation Ltd (MP Birla Group) placed an order for the supply of an MPS 2800 BK roller mill for its Chitter plant in January 2010. The mill, featuring an installed drive power of 700 kW, is designed to achieve a capacity of 50 tph of coal ground to a fineness of 15 per cent R 90 !Jm. The specific power consumption will be in the range of 10.6 kWh/t. The coal will be ground and dried in the MPS, using inert gases from a cement rotary kiln, and classified in the latest generation, integrated high-efficiency SLS 2450 BK classifier. Chittorgarh plant (Wonder Cement Ltd) In February 2011 , Wonder Cement Ltd ordered from Aumund three chain bucket elevators, ten belt bucket elevators, five deep drawn pan conveyors and three twin bucket elevators. The Aumund equipment will convey raw meal, clinker and cement. The shipment to India is scheduled for this year. Durg plant (J K Lakshmi Cement) FL Smidth has signed a contract with J K Lakshmi Cement (JKLC) in India for the supply of equipment for a 4500 tpd pyroprocessing system for its upcoming cement plant in central India. The broad scope of supply includes a CF silo, preheater, three support kilns, SF Cross-Bar Cooler, various auxiliary equipment and associated electrics and instrumentation. Govindapuram plant (Madras Cements Ltd) Madras Cements is the first Indian company to have ordered aluminium domes to cover its circular limestone stockpiles. The three domes, one 90m dia. and two 112m dia., have been ordered from T emcor, USA. The use of aluminium domes instead of conventional steel structures has resulted in substantial savings in civil costs due to lightweight aluminium material and has also ensured that a maintenance and corrosion-free structure is erected for the life of the plant. The domes are currently under erection and are expected to be completed as this issue goes to press. The domes are being erected by Temcor Rollwell Domes, a joint venture company between Temcor, USA and Rollwell, Mumbai, India. Gujarat plant (Nirma Ltd) Seven Aumund deep drawn pan conveyors are being delivered to Gujarat. Gulbarga plant (Chettinad Cement Corporation Ltd) Six deep drawn pan conveyors for clinker conveying, four belt bucket elevators for raw 13
