CMA’s Role and Initiatives in Promoting Cement Concrete Road & White-Topping

With the change in cement scenario from an era of shortages and rationing to one of easy availability in a highly competitive situation over the several years, and in an effort to wholeheartedly support the national aspiration for modernisation of the road network in the country, CMA and its Member Companies have taken several steps to promote use of cement in road sector. These include meetings and presentations, follow up with the authorities both at Centre and States, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), Municipal Corporations, Nagar Parishads, etc., dissemination of technical information on Cement Concrete Roads/White-Topping by way of Publications/ Seminars/Workshops and organising Training Programmes to engineers, offering advice on design of Cement Concrete Roads, site visits, etc.

These efforts have had a positive impact on Engineering Fraternity/Community, Bureaucrats and Politicians resulting in more and more construction of Cement Concrete Roads in the country.

As a part of its advocacy, awareness generation and documentation, CMA has also been bringing out several technical publications from time to time aimed at focussing on optimum usage and application of cement and best practices to be followed in the construction of Cement Concrete Roads, Buildings and Canal Lining. A few of our publications have also brought out the procedures and processes followed by the project executors in construction of some very prestigious and land mark projects, which may serve as a valuable reference and guide book for all concerned who are connected with planning and construction of similar Highway and other Projects in the country. A list of these publications is at Annexure -VII.

A list of important cement concrete Highways/Expressways, Urban Roads, Rural Roads and Pilgrim Centre Roads is also included as Annexure - VIII.
