Beyond investments in carbon reduction technologies, the Industry’s commitment to sustainability is reflected most in its corporate social responsibility (CSR) spending, which has often exceeded the mandatory 2 per cent of net profit. Investments made into CSR activities in FY16-17 amounted to INR 2.2 bn, or  3.7 per cent of profit after tax.

Of this total, 38 per cent was spent on education and training and 23 per cent on healthcare and sanitation.
